Winners of the European Aids Video Clip Contest "clip & klar europe 09" have been announced

Original Film and Video Clips in the Fight Against Aids Awarded in Colognet

HIVisible - that was the motto of the European AIDS Video Clip Contest "clip & klar europe 09", to which the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZga) invited to participate in their call for entries. This year's contest was under the patronage of Eva Luise Köhler, wife of the German Federal President. Sought-after were eye-catching films and video clips no longer than 60 seconds in length that creatively address the topic of AIDS and HIV prevention. The prize winners in the categories "Best National T.V. and Social Advertisement Campaign against AIDS" and "Best AIDS Video Clip by a Filmmaker or Filmstudent" were presented to the public on November 12th, 2009.

The Awards Ceremony took place in the framework of the 12th European AIDS-Conference (EACS) in Cologne. Traditionally, this conference concentrates on medical aspects around the topic of AIDS. This year, however, the Congress dedicated a focus to issues surrounding AIDS- Prevention.

"We are pleased to have been able to offer the diversity of European film and video clips dealing with the topic of AIDS prevention this special platform. Each video clip of the total 70 entries from 18 countries that participated in the competition represents a unique and creative piece of the overall mosaic in the fight against AIDS', stated Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Pott, Director of the German Federal Centre for Health Education.

Together Against AIDS: Best National T.V. and Social Advertisement Campaign against AIDS

The first place winner in the category Best National T.V. and Social Advertisement Campaign against AIDS went to Portugal with the clip „5 reasons not to wear condoms“. With visually formidable images assigned with short texts, the clip shows five good reasons why it is important to use a condom.

The second place went to the advertisement „Gay“ from Belgium/Wallonia. With the sentence 'Yes, of course', the clip exhibits the self-understood naturalness of condom usage.

The third place is shared by two countries: Switzerland with the clip „Beach Bar“ and Russia with the entry „Pool“. Both clips enthused the jury with their unique approaches to the topic of AIDS prevention. The video entry from Switzerland manages, in a total length of 5 seconds , to effectively make the viewer reflect about AIDS and condom usage. The Russian clip compares sex without a condom to a kind of 'blind flight' visualizing this with the image of a dive into an empty pool whilst blindfolded.

Don't give AIDS a chance: Best AIDS Video Clip by a Filmmaker or Filmstudent

In this category, Frauke Thielecke from Germany with her video clip „Home alone“ was able to prevail against the competition and took first place. In a most sympathetic and entertaining way, her clip shows how condoms can save lives.

The second place was taken by „A perfect day“ by the organisation JUPO Cologne. The clip convinced the jury with its black and white staging of a 'perfect world' ending with the poignant statement "because the world is not a perfect place - use condoms!

The jury nominated the clip 'What grandmother already new about' by Phillip Fricker from Germany for the third prize.  The jury was particularly impressed here with the humorous and cross-generational thematization of condom usage.

The three winners received prizes respectively of 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 Euros.
